A. Gabrielle J. van der Kraan
I studied Biomedicine and also completed my PhD at Monash University. During my PhD I looked at the effects of cancer therapeutics upon osteoclast formation and the signalling pathways involved. I now am a Postdoc at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. I work for Associate Professor Carsten Schmitz-Peiffer in the Insulin Signalling Laboratory, Diabetes and Obesity Program in the Healthy Ageing Theme. Our group has previously shown the role of Protein Kinase C epsilon upon glucose tolerance and insulin resistance in adipose tissue that confers whole body glucose intolerance and insulin resistance. I am studying at the mechanism whereby PKCε may be mediating these effects, specifically, looking at its effects upon pathways of mitochondrial metabolism. I have a dog and like to draw and paint.
